FBI treating San Bernardino attack as counter-terrorism investigation,  suspects dead in police shootout

Dec. 3, 1 p.m.: The FBI is treating the San Bernardino shooting as a counter-terrorism investigation, according to The New York Times. The suspects, a married couple, died in a shoot out with police hours after the attack. A total of 14 people were killed and 21 were injured.

The couple has been identified as Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik. The FBI’s counter-terrorism classification is based on materials the suspects stockpiled, including thousands of rounds of ammunition and 12 pipe bombs.

Dec. 2, 4:32 p.m.: President Barrack Obama reacted to the events in San Bernardino, Ca. on CBS.

“We have a pattern now of mass shootings this country that has no parallel anywhere else in the world,” he said.

He discussed implementing “common sense gun safety laws.”

“There’s some steps we could take not to eliminate every one of these mass shootings, but to improve the odds that they don’t happen as frequently,” he added.

Dec. 2, 4:17 p.m.: The New York Times has reported that at least 14 people are dead, as stated at a news conference by authorities. At least 14 people are also wounded. The search is still on for the shooters.

Original post on Dec. 2 at 2:27 p.m.: At least 12 people are dead and authorities are currently responding to an active shooter situation in San Bernardino, California. Witnesses say 3 men dressed in body armor and wearing masks entered the Loma Linda University Medical Center around 11 a.m. PST and started shooting. The shooters are still at large and are believed to have left the scene in an SUV.
