Daughter of SMU President R. Gerald Turner and Voice Professor at Texas Christian University (TCU), Angela Turner Wilson is among those who accused opera star, Placido Domingo of sexual harassment. Domingo has received about a dozen accusations of sexual harassment leading to several cancellations of his shows, including the Dallas Opera’s March 11 gala.

Wilson told the Associated Press (AP) that the incident occurred during the Washington Opera’s 1999-2000 season where Domingo was the artistic director and Wilson was the second female lead. She said to AP that one night before a performance, when they were getting their makeup done, Domingo came up behind her, put his hands on her shoulders, and then suddenly grabbed her bare breast underneath her robe. As he turned and left Wilson said she was left “stunned and humiliated.”

Domingo is the general director of the Los Angeles Opera, giving him great power over the company. He is often regarded as one of the greatest opera singers of all time. According to AP, Domingo was accused by several women of “sexually charged behavior,” and abusing his power by damaging the careers of those who rejected him.

In a statement given to the AP, Domingo believes accusations to be “inaccurate” and that his “interactions and relationships were always welcomed and consensual.” Investigations are currently open for these accusations as a response to an AP story.

When The Dallas Morning News reached out to President Turner and his wife, they said that they “aren’t commenting, but we are obviously very proud of Angela.”
