Fall recruitment begins

Upperclassmen looking to participate in Pan-Hellenic recruitmentthis fall were given a valuable slew of information Tuesday nightduring an information session held in the Hughes-Trigg Varsity.

Energy was high throughout the event, as many girls bumped intoold friends and made new contacts.

Representatives from two noteworthy sororities offeredinformation and invitations to future events.

Gamma Phi Beta recruitment chair Maya Mahoney explained themeaning of being in a sorority as meeting and developingrelationships with people that will last a lifetime. The GammaPhi’s will host a “Texas BBQ” tomorrow night at 6p.m. in front of the house.

Following Mahoney, Alpha Chi Omega vice-president Lauren Browninvited all of the girls to attend an ‘After-SchoolBBQ’, which will be held this evening at 5:45 p.m. in frontof the house.

Finally, Stephanie Fischer, recruitment vice president for thePan-Hellenic Association, warmed the room with cheerful remarks andlaughter, encouraging the young women to put aside any fears and tostart getting involved.

Amber Matthews, coordinator of student activities and Greekaffairs, has coordinated this event for three years, describing itas a way to “meet and greet other girls.”

The amount of speaking was kept to a minimal, as conversationstook the night away.

Although deferred recruitment is untraditional, the event drew alarge turnout of potential recruits.

Many of the young women in attendance have either transferredschools or were unable to pledge sooner because of athletics orheavy workloads.
