The way I see things, Jimmy Tubbs has already done more for themen’s basketball program than could ever be expected. Hesingle handily almost landed the Mustangs a spot in the Final Fourlater this week.

Tubbs arrived back on the Hilltop after a brief stint inOklahoma and already has the team turned around. He might not evenknow it yet. No really, just look. This is redunkulous. I havecalculated a complex formula taking into account location, weatherpatterns, history and luck.

The result shows that Tubbs could have masterfully taken ourbeloved Ponies to the Final Four this season. Keep your eyeswide-open and pay attention. At the first sign of slacking off, youwill completely fall off track. Mustang basketball is backbaby.

Tubbs attended Prairie View A&M University 1976 and receivedhis Masters of Education in Guidance and Counseling.

Here’s the catch, PVAMU’s mascot is a black panther.A panther is a form of a wild cat. The Arizona Wildcats are usuallyone of the top basketball teams in the Pac-10.

The Pac-10 has 10 teams in the conference, imagine that, andPele used to wear 10 when he played soccer. Pele played for Braziland last summer Brazil won the World Cup by beating Germany.

Dirk Nowitzki used to play soccer growing up in Germany, but nowhe is a star in the NBA, he plays for the Dallas Mavericks and is ateammate of Tony Delk.

Tony Delk was one the leaders of Kentucky men’s basketballteam back in 1996. In 1996, the United States hosted the Olympicsin Atlanta.

Atlanta is the home of the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks are a typeof bird and are in close relation to the blue jay. Not really, butthey are both birds. The Blue Jays are a team in Major LeagueBaseball that play its home games in Canada.

Keanu Reeves is from Canada, and he played a quarterback in themovie The Replacements. The movie was actually based on theNFL strike of 1987.

In 1987, Dee Brown was 15 years away from becoming the startingpoint guard at the University of Illinois.

Illinois lost to Big Ten conference rival Purdue 58-54 duringthe season.

Purdue lost to SMU at Purdue 60-59 back in December. December iswhen we get to take off of school for winter vacation. Mike Dementis taking a permanent vacation after getting fired. I’m justjoking. I liked coach D.

At the start of the season, Purdue beat Texas State in Alaska. If you spell Alaska backwards you get Aksala. Aksala is thenickname of the head coach at Texas State. Not really, but thatwould be a cool nickname.

Texas State is a school in Texas. Texas is also home to TexasTech. Tech lost to our Ponies this year. Mustang fans verbally beatTech coach Bobby Knight. Tech’s Knight used to beat hisplayers in the head when he coached at Indiana.

Indiana is the alma matter of a famous Dallasite named MarkCuban. Cubans are illegal cigars that aren’t allowed in theU.S.

The U.S. also considers marijuana illegal, but former CowboyNate Newton tried to smuggle a bunch of it in his car, leaving noroom for himself. Newton was easily over 350 pounds, which means heweighs more than three times the amount of a 100-pound fish.

When a goldfish dies, it flips upside down and floats on the topof the water. Water is the key component in proper hydration forcollege athletes. Nate Day is a college athlete that plays soccerat the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Chicago is home to the Chicago Cubs, a pro baseball team thatplays home games at Wrigley Field. The baseball stadium holds thenickname, “The Friendly Confines.”

The fans at the University of Maryland must not be friendlybecause they chanted “f*** J.J.” at Duke sharpshooterJ.J. Reddick. J.J.’s last name starts with the word,”red,” which is the main color in the uniforms at theUniversity of Nebraska.

Nebraska just hired a new head football coach Bill Callahan.Callahan used to coach in the NFL for the L.A. Raiders. The Raidersare kind of like pirates. The Pirates are the pro baseball teamthat plays in Pittsburgh. The saying, “the pitts”described the Mustang season. Except for a regular season winagainst NCAA tournament member and WAC foe Nevada.

Pay attention because this is where things start to getcrazy.

SMU beat Nevada, Nevada beat Kansas, Kansas beat Missouri andMissouri beat Final Four member Oklahoma State. One down, three togo.

OSU beat Pepperdine and then Pepperdine beat Colorado. Coloradothen beat California, who in turn beat BYU. BYU beat up on Utah andthe Utah took it out on Utah State. Utah State beat Illinois Stateand ISU beat Northern Iowa. Northern Iowa beat state rival Iowa andthen the Hawkeyes took out their frustration on Purdue. TheBoilermakers beat Duke. Two down, two to go.

Duke beat Georgia Tech. Three down and one to go.

Georgia tech beat UConn. That is all of them.

The way I see it, if Tubbs could have come back to Big D like amonth earlier, we might be dancing in the streets of San Antonio bynow. Tubbs will have the chance to continue his magical ways nextyear when the Ponies hit the hardwood once again. Until then we allwill have to sit back and think about what could have been.Hopefully, next year the press will recognize the same format Ihave used and rank SMU in the preseason top 25. Probably not. Oh,who cares. Welcome back to campus Big T.
