Houston’s in Preston Center is a culinary treat

Houston’s Restaurant was the frequent choice for many occasions while growing up in Houston, Texas.

It almost got to the point where we didn’t even need a menu anymore because we already knew what we were going to order.

The restaurant has a simple menu of entrees, which means they put more care into each dish.

Even though Houston’s is close by in Dallas, it does not seem to be our choice on as many occasions. It’s still a great option when a parent is in town and wants to go to our usual lunch spot, though.

It has been taken for granted but needs to be shared with all of you so that you can enjoy the classy eats of Houston’s.

Houston’s has delicious food that never seems to disappoint. They have a great outdoor patio and bar where you can grab drinks and an appetizer before being seated.

We started at the latter because we had to wait for about 25 minutes for a table.

One of the disappointments of Houston’s is it does not accept reservations, so be prepared to wait if you are going for dinner on a busy night.

We arrived hungry so we ordered the spinach and artichoke heart dip, which comes with chips, sour cream and salsa so you can make your very own blend. The staff recommended the spinach dip for an appetizer. It was very tasty and helped curb our appetites for our wait.

We were then seated in the beautiful dining area. The booths were a little too low, but the lighting made for a romantic setting.

Houston’s asks you to please turn your cell phones off before you are seated in its main dining area. This is to keep the loud talkers off their phones while people are trying to enjoy their dinners.

The servers all wear black and in the dimly lit atmosphere they do a great job of trying to be attentive without being obtrusive.

This is really nice if you don’t mind waiting on your water glass being filled or for the server to make his rounds. Overall, the wait staff was slow, but was nice when you had their attention.

For our entrees, we ordered the French dip sandwich, which featured thinly sliced prime rib between great bread.

It comes with a homemade horseradish sauce and au jus sauce to add extra flavor. We also ordered the “Knife and Fork” pork ribs. The meat slid right off the bone, making it very tender and easy to eat.

Both main courses came with a side of fries. They are thinly sliced and quite possibly the best french fries we’ve ever had. If you really like them you can order a whole basket of them which we have done before.

We wanted to try a few side dishes, so we ordered the side salad and the baked potato. Neither was spectacular, but they will both hit the spot if you are a light eater.

Entrees ranged from about $12- $26, but everything was totally worth the price.

The end of the meal called for a warm five-nut brownie: a decadent hot brownie under vanilla ice cream with a brandy sauce.

Houston’s Restaurant is located relatively close to campus in Preston Center. We highly recommend trying any of its entrees or relaxing outside and enjoying some drinks and an appetizer. It has an upscale feel with friendly comfort. Don’t hesitate to explore this delightful restaurant.
