Moody Madness brings magic to coliseum

Moody Coliseum got another boost of fan spirit at Program Council’s Moody Madness before Saturday’s men’s basketball game against Cincinnati.

With carnival games, airbrushed Peruna tattoos and free food and drinks, Program Council, students and fans celebrated the Mustangs’ success in the newly renovated coliseum.

“As the organization that supposed to bring the fun to campus, we’re excited to bring the fun to the new coliseum to celebrate with everyone,” said event organizer Laura Sullivan. “It’s an opportunity to get people excited as they’re walking into the stadium.”

As students, faculty and SMU basketball fans young and old waited for the doors to open before the game, they were able to play basketball, grab a free grilled cheese from Ruthie’s Rolling Café and get Peruna painted on their cheeks.

“SMU basketball is just 10 times more fun this year. Events like this give the whole community to get behind together,” said Jackson McMartin, Mustang Band member.

Filled with neighborhood children, parents, alumni and students, the Moody Courtyard was buzzing with energy for the hour leading up to the game. The event, which was brought back after a two year hiatus, carried the atmosphere of the fall boulevard season into the coliseum’s courtyard.

“Boulevards are very distinct and unique to the culture of SMU and it’s really good that we’re bringing that bond back to basketball,” junior Williamson Slack said.

Program Council hopes to continue the tradition, in hopes of adding to the already growing school spirit.

“I’m just so excited that we’re able to bring food and fun to celebrate the community and the fact that we’ve been doing so well this year,” Samantha Liles, program council member, said. “It’s a great time to be an SMU fan.”
