OE2C’s IT team begins work to reduce costs

OE2Cs IT team begins work to reduce costs

The Information Technology (IT) Initiative team of the Operational Excellence for the 2nd Century (OE2C) Campaign met for the first time Wednesday to discuss potential savings in technology spending.

According to the OE2C website, the team plans on finding savings between $6 million and $9 million for SMU, and improve service delivery across campus.

In fiscal 2014, total IT spending for SMU was more than 50 percent highter than the average for higher education.

The team will identify new ways to lower these costs while maintaining high-quality IT service. The overall team has been divided into three subteams: Operational Computing, Academic Computing and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).

Operational Computing will explore benefits associated with campus-wide deliveries of desktop computing, help desk, A/V, network and web development services.

Academic Computing will examine the best solutions for classroom and school applications or hardware tied to teaching and support for research.

ERP will evaluate SMU’s ERP software to minimize movement of information across campus.

All three teams will focus on delivery, customer satisfaction and overall IT efficiency.
