SMU athletes make the grade

All SMU athletes can be confident they have a better than average chance to share in at least one major victory together: graduation. According to Thursday’s initial NCAA Graduation/Success Rates report, SMU’s 14 athletic programs scored among Texas’ best with an 89 percent.

“We’re very proud of the academic successes of our student-athletes,” said SMU Athletic Director Jim Copeland in a press release. “SMU presents a challenging academic environment and for all of our teams to post GSRs at or above the national average – with nine teams scoring a perfect 100 – is a tribute to our student athletes, coaches and SMU’s academic support staff.”

SMU’s score ranks second in C-USA behind Rice, and third amongst all Division I schools in the state of Texas after Rice and Baylor.
