SMU Campus Weekly’s Assignments Desk Editor and former Editor-In-Chief Lauren Aguirre received the Dallas Bar Association’s Stephen Philbin Award for excellence in Legal Reporting in the Suburban Newspaper article category.
The competition was against submissions from professional, commercial publications and was not entered into a student category. Other winners include The Dallas Morning News and WFAA.
Aguirre’s story highlighted SMU’s handling of a Sept. 17, 2014, on-campus sexual assault case in the wake of SMU announcing a voluntary resolution agreement with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights in December 2014.
