Student Senators urge students to participate in meetings

Is there an issue on this campus that you are passionate about? Do you want to give this topic a voice?

On the ground floor of Hughes-Trigg at 3:30 p.m. each Tuesday, the SMU Student Senate convenes to discuss the issues important to campus. The Senate encourages an open table discussion so that students feel comfortable attending and speaking about topics they care about.

Issues brought forward by visitors can be serious and casual, the Senators urge students to ask about matters not previously discussed.

Student Senators are a range of ages, majors, and genders assuring that opinions are diverse and that each topic is seen from many different perspectives.

However, many students don’t realize that the meetings are not limited to the members or willing to stray from the agenda. In fact, “I wouldn’t even know where or when to find a Student Senate meeting,” said Chloe Rothstein, a senior communications major, when asked if she has ever been to a meeting.
