On Thursday evening, SPECTRUM hosted its annual Masquerade Ball in the Hughes-Trigg ballroom.

The event was held in celebration of National Coming Out Day, an unofficial holiday which encourages closted gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons to “come out” and spreads awareness of LGBT issues and the LGBT rights movement. 

In addition to food, music, and dancing, the event also featured drag shows from local entertainers.

SPECTRUM’s primary purpose on campus is to foster an environment where all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can speak openly about their concerns and help partake in the stand for equality for the LGBT community. Their goals are to educate, advocate, and support the issues and concerns that the LGBT community. They are located in the Women’s Center on the third floor of the Hughes-Trigg Student Center.
