1. Physical Therapy Assistant
Jobs in the physical therapy field are increasing each year, and the pay for these jobs is good. As a physical therapy assistant, you’ll be tasked with the duty to help those recovering from injuries. A physical therapist focuses on treating the condition or injury itself rather than improving the patient’s ability to function.
In this role, you’ll also set up treatment plans for patients to follow that helps guide them towards recovery. One of the biggest benefits of this career is that you can achieve this position with only 2 years of schooling.
2. Dental Hygienist
A dental hygienist is another hands-on job that pays well. As a dental hygienist, you’ll be tasked with cleaning teeth, completing oral exams, taking x-rays, and more. There are some administrative tasks that dental hygienists need to complete throughout their workday, but the majority of it is hands-on.
This position only requires 2 years of schooling to begin your career in an entry position. Pay for this job is on the higher end, so if you don’t mind cleaning other people’s teeth throughout the day, then this could be a great option for you.
3. Massage Therapist
Taking a step away from the mouth and towards the back, a massage therapist is another excellent option. This position only requires a postsecondary certificate that can be rewarded after taking a short program. After receiving your certificate, you’ll become a registered massage therapist.
In this position, you’ll use your hands and develop treatments to help patients manage pain, recover from an injury, relieve stress, relax, and so much more. You’ll even have the option of opening your own practice or working in a spa, clinic, and several other places.
4. Veterinary Technician
If you’re someone who loves animals, then a veterinary technician could be your calling. Completing a short program and receiving your Associate’s degree will get you what you need to start working beside veterinarians. As a veterinary technician, you’ll help the veterinarians care for animals of all species and sizes.
Keep in mind that you’ll need the stomach to assist the veterinarian during surgeries, administrate in emergency first aid situations, perform lab tests, and much more. Once you receive your Associate’s degree, you can find positions for this job at animal hospitals, clinics, and other similar places.
5. Commercial Driver
As a commercial driver, you’ll get an experience like no other. You’ll have the opportunity to drive and travel around the country. Some tasks that you might perform other than driving include underwater exploration, construction, maintenance, and more.
This is due to the fact that many commercial drivers work for oil and gas companies. Starting a career as a commercial driver does give you a few opportunities to branch out. For example, you might find yourself becoming a HAZMAT driver in the future.
For this position, you’ll need a post-secondary certificate.
6. Welder
A welder uses their hands to create all different kinds of structures. You might be surprised at how many different industries use welders. For example, constructing roads and bridges, building cars or ships, and even creating electronics all require a good welder.
To start a welding career, you’ll need a post-secondary certificate. Once you start learning how to weld, make repairs, and maintain welded structures, you can then begin to explore greater options. Some welders go on to work in the mining, shipbuilding, or even aerospace technology industry.
7. Makeup Artist
Not all hands-on jobs require you to get your hands dirty. If you enjoy experimenting with makeup and trying out different looks any chance you get, then consider a career as a makeup artist. A post-secondary certificate is needed to start your journey as a makeup artist.
However, once you do begin your journey, there are many paths available for you to take. Some makeup artists work in salons, while others travel the road for on-site fashion shows. Others work for celebrities or on the set of TV productions.
There are many different ways that you can explore this career. As long as you have a passion for makeup, you’ll find success.
8. Chef
What could be better than working around food all day long? There aren’t too many other better options. If you enjoy using your hands to cook, then it’s about time you start considering a job as a chef.
You’ll need a post-secondary certificate or diploma to begin your chef career. After receiving your diploma, begin working in a kitchen of your choice. There are plenty of options from high-class hotels, restaurants, and more.
