Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown ‘absolutely’ interested in SMU

Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown wants to return to coaching and SMU just happens to have the head basketball coach position up for grabs.

Communication between Brown and SMU have yet to happen, but when asked by The Dallas Morning News if he is open to the idea of coaching the Mustangs, his response was “absolutely.”

The Dallas Morning News reported early Wednesday that Brown, 71, “isn’t politicking for any particular job, SMU included.”

Brown, coached the Pistons to a NBA title in 2004, but has not coached a college team since he led Kansas to a national title in 1988. He remains the only coach to win NBA and NCAA titles.

SMU and Brown may not have formerly communicated, however SMU athletic director Steve Orsini and Brown will both be in New Orleans in the coming days. Both for different reasons, but both concerning basketball.

Whether or not more developments will arise concerning SMU and Brown is still a toss up, but Brown wants back into the business no matter what saying, “I just want to be a resource in some way, or coach or be involved – whether it’s as an assistant, or head coach, or if they want me to mentor somebody.”
