Mustangs kick off season with win over rival TCU

The Mustangs got their 2013-14 season started with a 69-61 victory over rival TCU Friday night at the American Airlines Center.

Nic Moore made a good first impression- scoring 13 points and eight rebounds in his first game as a Mustangs. Moore transfered from Illonois State last season and was ineligible to play until Friday.

A 14-2 run with 11:18 left in the game gave SMU the lead over TCU for good. However, the Horn Frogs refused to go quietly and brought the score within three points twice in the final five minutes but SMU continued to stymie their comeback efforts.

SMU put 11 Mustangs on the court Friday; every one made an appearance in the first half. In addition, seven Mustangs made their SMU debuts in the victory, including Sterling Brown, Keith Frazier, Crandall Head, Markus Kennedy, Ben Moore, [Nic] Moore, and Yanick Moreira.

The Mustangs host Rhode Island at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas on Monday. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m. CT.
