SMU Athletics receives record donations

SMU Athletics donors set a record with their generous donations for the seventh consecutive year.

During the last fiscal year, contributions reached more than $13.3 million. This constituted a 24 percent increase over the previous year. Donations to the Mustang Club rose 60 percent from $3.3 million to $5.3 million. Donor numbers expanded to 3,956, representing an increase of 32 percent.

Athletic Director Rick Hart arrived at SMU in 2012. Since then, annual giving to the Mustang Club has doubled and donor support of operations has increased nearly $5 million.

“I continue to be inspired by the generous support of SMU alumni and friends,” said Hart. “We are grateful to the 4,000 donors whose investments enable us to prepare students for life and compete for championships. Each of our student-athletes benefits from training with great coaches, exceptional medical care, outstanding academic support, the opportunity to travel and compete in sports they love and so much more. I want to thank all of our donors, the many volunteers and SMU development staff for another record year.”

Thanks to the generosity of the SMU community, significant funds have been invested in Moody Coliseum, the Miller Event Center and the SMU Tennis Complex in recent years.

Fundraising is ongoing for the SMU Aquatics Center and Trinity Forest Golf Club.
