SMU receives fourth-straight bowl invite

After an impressive win over the previously undefeated Tulsa Golden Hurricane Saturday, the Mustangs are on their way to a  fourth consecutive bowl game — a school record.

SMU will play in the Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl on Dec. 24 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Mustangs’ opponent will be from the Mountain West. CollegeFootballNews.com predicts 9-3 Fresno State to meet SMU on Christmas Eve.

Head coach June Jones, who played and coached for the University of Hawaii, will head back to his old stomping grounds looking for another Hawaiian bowl victory to pair with the 2009 SMU win over Nevada.

“Having been affiliated with this bowl since its inception, I know that it is one of the best bowl experiences in college football. I’m very excited for our players, staff and fans. This is a special experience,” Jones told SMU Athletics.

The 2012 Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl will air at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN from Aloha Stadium in Honolulu.
