The Mustangs will advance to the American Athletic Conference semifinals after a 1-0 win over No. 3-seeded Cincinnati Wednesday night.

In the 36th minute of play, sophomore Allie Thornton put the Mustangs on the scoreboard with a header assist from Claire Oates. This was Thornton’s fourth goal of the season.

The SMU defense, led by goalkeeper Catie Brown, recorded its fifth consecutive shutout. The Mustangs have not allowed a single goal in the past five games. Brown recorded four saves against Cincinnati.

SMU’s current five-game winning streak is the longest streak since 2010. The Mustangs are undefeated thus far in the AAC Tournament.

SMU will face No. 2 University of South Florida Friday at 3:30 p.m. in Orlando at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex. The match can be viewed on The American Digital Network.
