Women’s soccer nets bid to NCAA tournament

For one SMU team, thirteen isn’t such an unlucky number.

With 13 wins for the season, SMU women’s soccer has been selected to compete in the NCAA tournament…for the thirteenth time.

After losing in the finals of the American Athletic Conference Championships, the Lady Mustangs waited for the NCAA Selection Show to find out if they would be one of the 64 teams across the country chosen to compete.

The team gathered in Hall of Champions on Monday afternoon along with roughly 75 other fans to watch the selection show live.

SMU was announced in the second half of the bracket to play Oklahoma in the first round. The game is set for Friday, Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. in Norman, Oklahoma.

SMU holds a 5-2-1 record over Oklahoma in the nine times they’ve faced off in program history. The Sooners lost in their conference championship semifinals for the Big 12 to West Virginia.

Three other Texas schools join SMU in the tournament, including Houston Baptist, Texas A&M, and TCU.

The NCAA Championship weekend will kick off on December 2nd with semi-finals and will finish with finals on the 4th.
