The Man Repeller comes to Dallas

Leandra Medine, mastermind behind the blog “The Man Repeller,” is coming to “CUSP by Neiman Marcus” on Wednesday, when fans can preview the collection, “The Man Repeller x PJK… Just Saying.”

Medine’s appearance is at 6pm on the second floor of Neiman Marcus at the Northpark Center.

The collection is collaboration between the blogger and the brand. PJK is a clothing brand that’s goal is to create “effortlessly chic basics essential to any modern girl’s closet,” according to their website. The collaboration will preserve PJK’s “effortlessly chic” feel and incorporate Medine’s “man repelling” eccentric-cool tendencies.

A “man repeller”, in Medine’s own words, is “Outfitting oneself in a sartorially offensive mode that may result in repelling members of the opposite sex.”

Medine started the blog in April 2010 after a friend suggested her wardrobe might be the reason she didn’t have a boyfriend. Medine’s response was, according to Business Insider, “If I have to give up good fashion for a relationship, I don’t want a relationship.”

Today, Medine’s blog has proven to be a success. Medine often sits in the front row at fashion week, and when she does, she posts pictures to her “Manstagram,” which has over 285,000 followers. (Still, not as many as her blog, which gets over 2.6 million page views a month.) Fashion editors and clothing designers respect her opinion, and her followers are addicted to the way she styles. This enthusiasm for Medine’s “Man Repelling” fashion is why PJK has fraternized with the blogger herself.

“The Man Repeller x PJK…Just Saying” launched in February this year. The contemporary line is sold at Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus and Shopbop; it features graphic t-shirts, bustiers, as well as blazers and colorful dresses.

While many of the pieces echo the “man repeller” definition, others carry a more feminine look (but still conserve her quirkiness). In an interview with CUSP, Medine wore a floral strapless dress from the collection and said, “Sometimes even I want to look girly, and that’s why dresses like this exist…Wow!”

In addition to the new clothing line, Medine has many achievements. Elle Magazine named her one the Top 10 Influential Fashion Personalities of 2012, and VOGUE featured her in “The Best of 2012.” The Man Repeller has even received acknowledgment from non-fashion enthusiasts like TIME, who voted her one of the 25 Best Blogs on 2012, and Forbes who listed her in the “30 under 30, 2012” piece.
