Everyone knows Ryan Gosling if not from “The Notebook” or “Crazy, Stupid, Love” then probably from his days on “The Mickey Mouse Club” or one of his independent movies.

He has thirty-five acting credits on his resume and has been in the business since the ripe age of 15.

The Canadian-born actor won an Independent Spirit Award in 2007 for Best Actor in “Half Nelson,” an MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss with Rachel McAdams from “The Notebook” and has been nominated for an Academy Award.

Gosling has featured a large presence on the Web lately, with recent Tumblrs that have been making a lot of headway on the Internet such as “Hey girl,” which features Gosling with text blurbs on his photo saying things like, “Hey girl, it’s okay if we cheat on our diets, but I’ll never cheat on you.”

Additionally, he is notorious for dating his co-stars like McAdams or Michelle Williams in “Blue Valentine.”

Most recently you may have seen him opposite Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes in “The Place Beyond the Pines.”

Despite his previous acting work, Ryan Gosling is now calling the shots in his directorial debut entitled, “How to Catch a Monster.”

In addition to directing, Gosling also wrote the film. “How to Catch a Monster” will star Saoirse Ronan (“The Lovely Bones”), Christina Hendricks (“Mad Men”) and his supposed girlfriend, Eva Mendes.

Filming begins this summer in Detroit, Michigan.

Hendricks will be playing the protagonist, a mother that is single and raising a son who discovers an underwater town.

Hendricks recently commented on her anxieties about working with Gosling, “You don’t want to disappoint the people who have put their trust in you.”

As there is no trailer yet the film is surrounded by a lot of speculation and question of whether or not Gosling will be up for the challenge of actor turned director.

It sounds as though he is following in the steps of George Clooney or Brad Pitt.

Gosling says, “I’ve learned it’s important not to limit yourself. You can do whatever you really love to do, no matter what it is.”

What’s next for Gosling after this?

He was recently quoted saying, “I always wanted to make a violent John Hughes movie. I love John Hughes movies. I love ‘Pretty in Pink’. But I always thought if there were head-smashing in it it’d be a better movie.”

The film, “How to Catch a Monster” has an pending release date of sometime in 2014.
