‘The Game of Kings’ comes to the Hilltop

CORRECTION

The Daily Campus reported that the Miller family was trying to start a polo team at SMU while neglecting to mention that there is already a polo club at SMU, which is trying to get chartered status. The Daily Campus apologizes for this error.

Polo, also known as “The game of Kings”, is growing bigger and bigger in the United States, and has been buzzing around the SMU campus as well.

Local SMU alumnus Vaughn Miller and his family have created a polo facility called Prestonwood Polo Club. They offer fast-paced thoroughbred action that is open to the public every Saturday during polo season.

The Miller family wanted to bring the sport to North Texas, and they are now trying to start a polo team at SMU.  They have a first-class facility, horses, field, scoreboard and stands, and are still improving the club every day.

When Mrs. Miller, president of Ladies Polo Auxiliary of Texas, was asked why we need a Polo team at SMU, she responded, “Because Harvard and Yale have one!  It’s a great sport that’s co-ed, and is really fun to watch and play.”

Mr. Miller is also a candidate for coaching the team because of his vast amount of experience and dedication to the sport. He has even played with Prince Charles of England.

It seems appropriate for ‘the Mustangs’ to have a polo team.  If you are interested in the mission to start a Polo team at SMU, or if you would just like to know more about the sport, email [email protected].
